Fractional Shares
Last updated: August 6, 2026
Clear Street does not support fractional share trading. Equity orders are placed in whole shares only, so no stocks are eligible for fractional share purchases.
What this means when you trade
Order quantities must be whole numbers of shares. You cannot buy or sell a fraction of a share, and you cannot enter a dollar-based (notional) order that would result in a fractional position.
This applies to every symbol on the platform — there is no per-stock eligibility list, because the platform does not offer fractional trading for any stock.
When you might still see a fractional amount
A corporate action can produce a fractional entitlement — for example, a reverse split can leave you owed a fraction of a share. Because fractional positions cannot be held, that residual is paid out to you as cash in lieu rather than held as a fractional share. The cash typically posts after the corporate action itself, once the transfer agent has sold the residual shares and allocated the proceeds, so it is normal to see the share change before the cash arrives.
